The gear is supported in the housing through a bearing, and one end of the steering gear is connected with the steering shaft to input the steering control force of the driver. Performance characteristics of rack and pinion steering gear:
Compared with other types of steering gear, rack and pinion steering gear has simple and compact structure. The shell is mostly made of aluminum alloy or magnesium alloy by die casting, and the quality of the steering gear is relatively small. Gear rack transmission mode is adopted, with high transmission efficiency.
After the clearance between gears and racks is generated due to wear, the spring with adjustable pressing force installed on the back of the rack and close to the driving pinion can automatically eliminate the clearance between teeth, which can not only improve the stiffness of the steering system, but also prevent impact and noise during operation. The steering gear occupies a small volume and has no steering rocker arm and straight rod, so the steering wheel angle can be increased and the manufacturing cost is low.
However, its reverse efficiency is high. When the vehicle is driving on an uneven road, most of the impact force between the steering wheel and the road can be transmitted to the steering wheel, resulting in the driver’s mental tension and difficulty in accurately controlling the driving direction of the vehicle. The sudden rotation of the steering wheel will cause thugs and harm the driver at the same time.
