Many domestic independent brand automobile manufacturers have launched their own concept cars, and newly developed models are emerging one after another. Sina Auto Channel invited the designers of main concept cars and key domestic models for the majority of netizens to let designers and engineers talk about model design ideas. The following is an exclusive interview with Mr. Gao Lixin, vice president of Chery Automotive Engineering Research Institute.
Host: A21 is a type a car, but the positioning of this car is the mid-range car market. Is A21 positioned like this?
Gao Lixin: this car is not a simple upgrade of existing models, but a completely independent new development. In fact, in the development process of A21, we have created many “first” concepts in the industry. He is the first “global car” designed and manufactured by Chinese people. When designing this car, Chery should not only consider the consumption habits of Chinese people, but also understand the consumption habits and characteristics of consumers in other parts of the world, so as to meet the different needs of many countries and markets. So we call it “global car”. We have such a concept car for global development. In the future, we can see A21 car in the international market. This car is the first model under development. This product is very important for enterprises. The R & D process of this product represents the real level of an enterprise.
Moderator: can you introduce the development process of this A21?
Gao Lixin: in his whole development process, the first step is to start from the market positioning. The concept of “global car” of this car was introduced just now, which means that when we study commodity positioning, we are not only limited to China. We also need to understand the habits of foreign consumers and the requirements of laws and regulations in the global market.
In the whole process of vehicle development, we follow the principles of design, verification and confirmation. From the perspective of product design, design is the technical requirements, product specifications and product drawings. What we call technical specification and design verification is to meet the input requirements. Design confirmation is that the product should meet the requirements of the objective environment used by users. Our company attaches great importance to this perspective. So far, about 100 sample cars have to be made for this car, and the cost of each sample car is more than 400000. There are not many enterprises that can afford such a large investment in China.
Host: A21 is mainly family oriented. What is its positioning?
Gao Lixin: market positioning is also a process of decomposition and analysis. Through market analysis, find out all our competitive products. As our target model in the competition, our model should surpass this model. Evaluating each car is not only from the technical level, but also from the cost performance aspect. As we all know, there are some good cars that are relatively expensive. In fact, our top-grade car is no longer the concept of car. It goes beyond the needs of ordinary people for cars and represents a symbol of identity. He is different from the car we want. At this stage when the car enters the family in China, we should focus on transportation tools. In fact, on this basis, our pursuit of fashion personalization is the basic requirement. As Chery company, environmental protection, energy conservation and safety are our key considerations. This car is not an ordinary product. We developed it according to the trend of social and economic development and the requirements of building a harmonious society in the future.
Host: can you introduce A21? What are the highlights you are most satisfied with?
Gao Lixin: the biggest highlight of this car is a platform. We can derive many future models from the existing A21 platform. On this platform, users can choose from a variety of engines and configurations. It may be 2.0, 1.6, or even a diesel engine. In terms of the technical content of the car itself, our car has introduced can LAN system. This system is our development direction. Among the self-developed domestic models, A21 is definitely the first model with can technology. This technology ensures the convenience and functional scalability of our car in use.
At the same time, in the whole manufacturing process of our car, the production and manufacturing of Chery A21 also reflects the development trend of China’s automobile manufacturing industry. Chery’s welding workshop also has 14 robots to assemble the body on the assembly line. At the same time, our mold development also adheres to the road of internationalization. The development speed and quality of Chery mould can be said to be world-class.
Host: will there be such a situation that the mini car and medium-sized car this time mean that A21 will replace QQ and Fengyun?
Gao Lixin: No. Toyota, for example, now has more than 60 products. We are the same. The products on display are of different types. Our A21 car can be used as a business car or an official car. It should be said that he also represents the trend of family cars. Ordinary families feel a little big about the car of Oriental Son. For Fengyun, it should be a very good brand. It still belongs to a very good product in Chery’s products. A21 is the product of market segmentation in view of this situation and seeing the development trend of China.
A21 is not particularly luxurious, but very generous. As an official car or a business car, it doesn’t seem stingy. As a family car, it is not luxurious. The market scope of such a car will be wider.
